MEET THE JUROR:

Lyle Novinski

 

Lyle Novinski is Professor Emeritus of Art and former Chair of the Art Department at the University of Dallas. He is an established painter and designer. He holds MA and MFA degrees from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, with further study in Philosophy  and Theology at Marquette University. Professor Novinski's interests as a working artist embrace a wide range of topics, including painting as a discipline, design and execution of liturgical spaces, and the history of sacred art. Consequently, he remains a sought after lecturer. His many exhibits over the years have brought note to his work with over 60 installations in churches including the windows of St. Rita's in Dallas, furnishings for the Neuhoff Chapel at SMU, as well as a life-sized mosaic in a chapel in Rome.  www.novinskistudio.com

 

ELIGIBILITY 

Open to all artists, 18 and older and legal residents of Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana

 

ARTWORK REQUIREMENTS 

Supports: canvas, panel, paper, or yupo. Two-dimensional works must classify in one of FIVE CATEGORIES: 

  1. Oil painting 
  2. Acrylic 
  3. Water Media - Watercolor, casein and gouache 
  4. Mixed Media -The use of two or more mediums, collage, calligraphy, hand-pulled prints. Collage must incorporate two-dimensional, self-created elements. No relief or three-dimensional objects, including found objects or magazine clippings. 
  5. Drawing (Dry Media) - includes Pastel, Colored Pencil, Graphite, Ink, Silver, Gold, Conte Crayon, oil pastel, markers, scratchboard, etc. 

 

Submitted works of art must be two-dimensional originals completed within the last two years without instructor supervision. Work must not be a copy of other artist's work (including reference photographs). 

 

INELIGIBLE WORKS 

Computer generated, photographic, offset printed, collaborative and previously ACCEPTED work into the Texas & Neighbors Regional Art competition are ineligible. 

 

Artwork more than the 50 inch MAXIMUM SIZE (including frame) in either dimension or less than the 12 inch MINIMUM SIZE in either dimension--or 144 square inches (excluding frame.) 11”x14’ is an acceptable size.

 

Irving Art Association reserves the right to reject any works not meeting eligibility requirements, or deemed inappropriate to hang in the Irving Arts Center (including frontal nudity) even after the image has been accepted. 

SALES 

All sales from this show will be handled through the Irving Arts Center, which requires a 20% commission on sales. The artist is liable for all taxes and commissions on these sales. All sales are due on or before June 2, 2017 and payable to the Irving Art Association. For more information, please contact info@texasandneighbors. com. 

 

LIABILITIES 

Although the Irving Art Association will exercise due care in handling works submitted to this exhibition, neither the Irving Art Association, nor the Irving Arts Center will be responsible for any loss or damage to any art work. Artists are expected to insure their artwork.

IMAGE FORMAT REQUIREMENTS
72 DPI Digital Images in JPEG format - No smaller than 1920 pixels on the longest side. 5MB maximum image file size. (CaFE requirements.)
 
Images of accepted entries will become the property of IAA and lAC to be used for the catalogue and other printing material, archives, web site, promotional, and educational purposes.
 
SUBMISSIONS DEADLINE
Completed entry form, digital JPEG images and fees must be received by midnight on Thursday, February 15, 2018.
 
FEES
Entry fee of $40 allows up to 3 entries per artist. Pay by credit card through CaFe or mail a check to Irving Art Association, P.O. Box 153581, Irving TX 75015-3581 attention EXHIBITS. Checks must be received by February 15, 2018.
 
ALL FEES ARE NONREFUNDABLE.
 
Members of the Irving Art Association receive $5 off the entry fee.  New members may join online at time of entry and are eligible to participate in the IAA Juried Members Exhibit held in June. See www.irvingartassociation.org.

 

SELECTION OF ENTRIES
The juror will select 70 to 75 artworks from submitted entries. Entrants will be notified of acceptance or nonacceptance by email by March 6.

FRAMING

  • Artwork must be framed professionally or on a 1" - 2" wrapped canvas with all sides painted (no white sides accepted).
  • Works must be wired with screw eyes or D-rings, ready to hang, with backing. No saw tooth hangers.
  • Plexiglas glazing only, except pastel - glass permitted.
  • MINIMUM ARTWORK SIZE - 12 inches in either dimension without frame. (or 144 square inches)  11x14 is acceptable.
  • MAXIMUM - 50 inches FRAMED size in either dimension. A diptych or triptych must be framed in a single frame.

Shipping

SHIPPED DELIVERY & RETURN OF ACCEPTED ENTRIES 

 

Packing: Pack accepted works in light-weight, sturdy, reusable cartons. Strongbox cartons are recommended. DO NOT pack works in wooden crates or with excessively loose packing material such as peanuts, squiggles or cloth. ENTRIES RECEIVED WITH LOOSE PACKING MATERIAL WILL BE DISQUALIFIED. 

 

Labels: Clearly print your name and address on the outside and inside of the shipment cartons. Insure your shipment for your protection. 

 

Shipping: Ship works via FedEx or UPS, prepaid WITH A PREPAID RETURN LABEL to arrive within March 26-30, 2018 to the IRVING ARTS CENTER, 3333 N. MacArthur Blvd., Irving, TX 75062. Works that arrive after March 31 noon will not be judged.

 

Returns: IAA will repack works in the original packing carton with the original packing material, affix the prepaid label, and return the shipment via FedEx or UPS.

Hand-delivered accepted works

must be received on Saturday March 31, 2018 between 10:00 am - 3:00 pm at the IRVING ARTS CENTER, 3333 N. MacArthur Blvd., Irving, TX 75062. Entries received after 3:00 pm will not be judged.

STRIKE & PICK UP


Hand-delivered entries must be picked up on Sunday, June 10 between 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm. Artists who do not pick up their entries during the appropriate time will be charged a fee of $10 per day. NO EXCEPTIONS.

TxN Signature Status

Earned by having five paintings exhibited iin the Texas & Neighbors exhibit. This designation is retroactive. A medal and certificate are awarded.

 

Artists who receive signature status have the right to add the TXN acronym to their paintings, plus a listing with a direct link to their websites on the TxN site.
